The Korean essence is a category of skincare without a clear Western equivalent. It is not a toner — toners are astringent and designed for the brief swipe. It is not a serum — serums sit above the essence in the practice. The essence is the layer of water you put back into the skin after cleansing; everything else that follows builds on it.
Yul Essence is built on a base of fermented bamboo sap, drawn from Phyllostachys bambusoides groves in Damyang. The sap is fermented for fourteen days with a starter culture we maintain in-house; the result is a base water that is slightly viscous, slightly sweet, and rich in mannitol — a sugar alcohol the skin appears to love.
To this base we add six-year Geumsan ginseng oligosaccharide, fermented houttuynia from the Jirisan foothills, and a small concentration of fermented rice extract for the slight thickness. The result is a clear, almost colorless liquid that pours from the bottle like cool tea.
Worn morning and evening, on damp skin. Three drops, pressed in. Wait for it to absorb before continuing to Step Three.

- 1Cleanse first. Leave the skin damp from the rinse.
- 2Pour three drops into the palm; warm briefly between palms.
- 3Press — do not rub — into the skin in slow upward motions, starting at the jaw.
- 4Wait forty seconds. The essence should absorb completely. Continue to Step Three.
